Former SWAN president Saidu Abubakar decry impact of economic meltdown on sports development

Erstwhile president, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN mallam Saidu Abubakar has lamented that the current global economic downturn is one of the factors responsible for the unsteady growth in the sports sector in Nigeria in recent times .
The seasoned sports journalists, speaking at SWAN north west zonal meeting held at Muhammad Dikko stadium conference hall in Katisna lamented that the falling economic conditions have contributed immensely to the falls in sports promotion and development, not just in Nigeria, but globally.
He note that the situation has degenerated that sports brain storming sessions could not be held due to paucity of funds, explaining that this has significant negative effects on sports promotion and development.
He said “ sports activities is facing disturbing situations due to economic challenges, this is very disturbing .”
He commended the body of sports writers in the zone for initiating the meeting , urging other zones to also meet regularly to deliberate on crucial issues that will move the sector forward.
He then urged sports journalists to always adhere strictly to the ethics of their trade in the interest of sports development in Nigeria.
