NUJ Kano Correspondent chapel chairman Gala Cup kicks off in Gwarzo Local Government

The  1st edition of Ibrahim Garba Shuaib Gala  football competition  last Sunday evening  kicked off at  the football play ground at  Government Girls secondary School Gwarzo .

Our correspondent reports that 16   clubs will lock horns in the initial knock out stanza of the competition,  8 clubs will proceed to the quarter finals,  semi final and final  stages .

Star United Gwarzo vs Dungumawa United featured in the opening match,  dignitaries, who witnessed the opening game, includes, executive chairman, Gwarzo local government  engineer Abdullahi Kutama,  representated by  Youth Leader, APC North Central, Babballe Nafada, vice president Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN North West, Lurwanu Idris  Malikawa, chairman, SWAN Kano chapter, Zahradeen   Saleh, among others.

Speaking with sports writers, chairman NUJ Kano correspondent chapel, Ibrahim Garba Shuaib said the grass root  competition was  organized to support “what the youths in the area cherish so much, sport”.

He note that the  motive  behind organizing  the competition is to expose what he described as the  abundant untapped sports  talents  in Gwarzo, he said “ we are blessed with good legs and I think it is time we expose them.

“football is one area our youths are doing well and if we give  them the  rightful technical  support and atmosphere, they will excel,  I am very much conversant with the challenges, which is prominently lack of  exposure.

Ibrahim went on to further say “also am aware that we need standard facilities, as time goes on, when we get there, the resources needed will be  mobilized to address this special sports challenge in Gwarzo communities.

“capacity building of our coaches is very critical, if we truly want to develop and harness the potential of sports in Gwarzo town and its environs, soon we will organize a coaching course for our coaches and also we will  invest on our referees, if we achieve this them Gwarzo will be well positioned to produce the next Ahmed Musa’s.”
