Rio Ferdinand shares encouraging Atletico Madrid vs Manchester United prediction
That’s the verdict from Rio Ferdinand as the former United stalwart urged Ralf Rangnick and his men to lay down a marker in their Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night (8pm kick off).
After recording back-to-back wins over Brighton and Leeds United, the Old Trafford side jet out to Spain in improved form, ready to take on their last remaining chance of a trophy this season.
United saw their Premier League title hopes descend into tatters before the November break and have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Rangnick’s side remain in the push for top-four, though, as they also go about upsetting the odds in Europe.
Their opponents Atletico are the reigning La Liga champions, although that title defence has not gone to plan and their usually water-tight defence has already been breached more times this season than in any other since Diego Simeone took charge 11 years ago.
Speaking on the latest episode of his popular Vibe With Five podcast, Ferdinand said: “I think there is a result out there for United.
“[Atletico] have conceded more goals than they ever have in a season under Simeone. They have conceded 34 goals this season and there are still 13 games to go.
